Football is Back at Bishop Connolly High School
Bishop Connolly High School is excited to announce that, beginning in August 2019, football will be back!
Part of a newly-formed co-op program, Bishop Connolly will be joining forces with St. John Paul II High School, Hyannis, with the new team competing in the MIAA’s Central Catholic League. Named the St. John Paul II/Bishop Connolly Lions, the team will play home games at Massachusetts Maritime Academy; the annual Thanksgiving game will be played at Bishop Connolly High School. St. John Paul II head coach Matt Marshall and his coaching staff will guide the team, and additional administrative oversight will be provided by Mark Santos, St. John Paul II, and John Feeny, Bishop Connolly, the athletic directors at each school. Both schools are looking forward to a productive athletic partnership.
During the recent past, Bishop Connolly’s football program had been both competitive and successful, having captured a Mayflower League championship as recently as 2015. Connolly had been part of a co-op program with Westport High School, and as a result of a decline in football participation, the administration reluctantly decided to dissolve the program this past fall. St. John Paul II High School also had seen its football participation decline in recent seasons.
An informational meeting for parents, students and local media will be held at Bishop Connolly High School on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Coach Marshall, Santos and Feeny will be available for questions and discussion at that time. For more information, contact BCHS athletic director John Feeny at 508.676.1071 x358 or email@example.com.
