COMMUNITY REPORT PRESENTED TO PARENTS

On Wednesday, September 19, Bishop Connolly parents reported to the Msgr. Prevost Auditorium to hear the annual Community Report.  A tradition at Bishop Connolly High School, the Community Report reflects on the achievements and accomplishments of the past year and gives a preview of upcoming events.  Presented by school president, Robert P. Morissette, the address focused on the school’s initiation of successful programs and activities.  The school’s newly introduced Honors Program was a highlight.  The Honors program optimizes the intellectual and personal growth of students by offering a sequence of enrichment activities, independent projects and mentoring relationships.  Also featured was the growing arts department which has seen considerable growth in the areas of film, theatre and chorus as well as 2D and 3D art.  Morissette noted the introduction of a new laptop computer station that will allow individual classrooms to take advantage of computer access anywhere in the building.

As an example of the vibrant school community and its ability to share experiences with students and families, Morissette reminded the assembled parents of the highly successful Christmas in Our Hearts Week that provided a series of events in December that brought Christmas cheer and warmth to everyone.

For the upcoming school year, a vast array of clubs and activities continue to be offered.  From the newly formed Molecular Modeling Club to Mock Trial, to the Van Gogh Club and Liturgical Ensemble as well as everything in between, activities for students abound.  Morissette thanked the devoted staff for their commitment to these enrichment activities.

Principal Michael Scanlan introduced new faculty members indicating that “they bring an enthusiasm and a commitment to Catholic education that makes them truly special. “These teachers joined to our already superior teaching staff provide great promise for our students.  Collectively this is the finest faculty with which I’ve ever been associated.” Scanlan reminded parents that he is here to serve them.  “If you don’t call or email me, I’ll feel as if I’m unnecessary.  Please, bother me!”  As an indication of his desire to assist parents on behalf of their children, the principal passed out business cards with his contact information to all parents.

Advancement Director Ann Cabral spoke to the upcoming admissions season and urged all families to check out the school’s website and accompanying video which will give parents and prospective families a snapshot of the school.  The theme Proud Tradition- Future Promise was introduced to parents. “We have begun an extensive marketing campaign aimed at creating greater awareness of our school,” Director Cabral noted.  “We really are excited about the prospects for our school and want to showcase all that we have to offer” added Cabral.  Bishop Connolly has already begun its extensive round of school visits.  The school’s Open House for prospective families is October 14, 2007 from 1-3 pm.

The remainder of the evening was given over to teachers who welcomed parents in individual classrooms with specific course information.
