COMMUNITY AWARDS HIGHLIGHT CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
Bishop Connolly High School’s emphasis on Christian service is often mirrored by similar good works completed outside of the school setting. The opening ceremony of Catholic Schools Week highlighted the contributions of several students and faculty.
Recognized as the most recent recipients of the Diocesan Pope St. Pius X Youth Award were seniors Michelle Canuel and Katelyn Larrivee. In addition, senior Peter Menard was recognized for having attained the rank of Eagle Scout, scouting’s highest honor. All three students represent Bishop Connolly’s student commitment to their communities and parishes. “Catholic Schools Week affords us the opportunity to recognize their responsibility and commitment beyond the school door” noted school president Robert P. Morissette.
A long serving faculty member was also recognized with the school’s annual Faculty Community Service Award. Mr. Dean Lauzon was acknowledged for his contributions to the Emmaus Retreat Program where he serves as regional program coordinator. For twelve years a teacher at Bishop Connolly High School, Mr. Lauzon’s ongoing commitment to the school as well as his volunteer efforts singled him out for special recognition.
Years-of-service awards were given to Counselor Monica Fahey, teachers Frank Sherman and Chris J. Silva, support staff Gustavo Chong, Jeffrey Farley, Judy Furtado and Lisa Laprise; ten year recognition to math department head Yvonne Shireman; 25 year service award to world language department head Susan Silvia; 27 year service award to Bro. Daniel Caron, F.I.C. “Thanks to the commitment of individuals such as these fine folks, our school continues to be able to serve the diocese as a premier high school of choice for our children” commented school principal Michael Scanlan at the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
