Technology | our network

Technology and technology integration in the high school classroom has come a long way since the days of terminals, punch cards, and 5.25” floppy disks. Where, in the past, the use of computers was viewed as necessary for a limited number of occupations, today, technological proficiency is necessary for nearly all walks of life. As a result, Bishop Connolly High School strives to educate its students and offer them opportunities which will shape them as leaders in the academic arena, and in the workforce.

Network Resources
Each student is provided a username, password, and shared disk space on our network. This allows students to access their work from any computer within our network. Each computer on our network has access to the Internet. This allows students to access Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), as well as our online research databases, such as Facts on File. Additionally, each student can print to any one of our networked printers located throughout the building.

Wireless Internet Access
Bishop Connolly encourages students to utilize technology in and outside of the classroom as a means of preparing them for college life, or the workforce. One of the ways we encourage the use of technology in and out of the classroom is through wireless Internet access. Our entire building provides wireless Internet access for the use of both school owned equipment, such as laptops, as well as student laptops. This allows students to access Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), as well as our online research databases, such as Facts on File.

Web Based Learning

Virtual Labs
Bishop Connolly High School has brought technology from the realms of computer sciences, to the realms of the hard sciences through the use of virtual labs for physics, chemistry, and biology. These labs offer students the ability to safely, efficiently, and productively perform experiments inside and outside of the classroom through web based applications.

Virtual Learning Environments
Bishop Connolly High School utilizes Moodle, a Virtual Learning Environment, similar to Blackboard or WebCT, as a tool to supplement learning. Teachers can post assignments and projects online, which allows students to retrieve assignments even if they are absent. More importantly, however, Moodle also offers opportunities to generate class discussions online through the use of forums, online writing journals, blogs, and surveys. Moodle effectively acts as an extension of the traditional classroom, taking learning beyond the four walls of the brick and mortar institution.
