The Counseling Department strives to motivate students to maintain a positive self-image, to enhance decision-making skills and to have students recognize and to attain their highest levels as a person.  In working with students in these areas we are preparing them for personal success.  It is our hope that each student will become attentive listeners of Gods Word and act on that Word.
  • The department seeks to assist in meeting individual needs and in developing self-confidence and God-given talents.
  • To provide an environment where students, faculty and parents can understand the scope of the four year guidance program
  • To provide the occasions and the instruments for students, faculty and parents to better understand the students’ individual abilities and the responsibility required to use this knowledge.
  • To provide an environment in which the young women and young men of Connolly may fully realize the possibilities of their individual selves.
Students need counseling and guidance for personal, emotional, social, spiritual, educational and vocational issues.  In addition to providing personal counseling and access to information and assistance in the decision-making process, the counselor develops and implements a comprehensive developmental counseling program to assist students in developing interpersonal relationship skills an awareness of personal strengths and weaknesses, problem solving and decision-making skills.  Some of these activities are addressed in small group settings.

All students in grades 9 through 12 are completing their basic education and are preparing to meet the challenges of life in order to become independent adults. The student needs to know that in their counselor they have an advocate when difficult situations arise, and that their counselor is also there to praise them when they receive recognition for accomplishments.  They also need to be aware that they are responsible for their actions and behavior.  This awareness includes recognition that they always have a choice surrounding their actions.  A major component of counseling is based on the young person’s need to assert her/his independence while setting appropriate goals and making sound decisions.  The major areas of developmental need, which determine counselor interventions, are: personal, emotional, social, spiritual, educational and vocational.  Developmental needs of all students in high school include the following:

  • Assimilating self-knowledge.

  • Development of specific goals.

  • Adjusting to changing conditions.

  • Planning program to achieve goals.

  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
