BISHOP CONNOLLY HOLDS MEMORIAL CANDLELIGHT MASS

Those who have gone before us
Hold a special place in our hearts.

It is a Jewish custom to light a memorial candle year after year in commemoration of a loved one’s death. Each year the Bishop Connolly community is honored to offer its Memorial Candlelight Mass in memory of loved ones whose names are inscribed in our Memorial Book and who are now in the loving embrace of our Lord and Father.

On Wednesday, November 7, 2007 Mass was celebrated by Msgr. Thomas J. Harrington, assisted by the school’s campus minister Deacon Tony Cipriano. This special tribute in memory of parents, children, classmates, alumni and friends was attended by faculty, families and friends of the Bishop Connolly High School community.

Msgr. Harrington’s homily included a reminder that “this special tribute is a faithful yearly reminder of the lives that were lost and the love that will never die.” President Robert Morissette in commenting on the event noted that “each of these individuals hold a special place in the heart of the Bishop Connolly community and will never be forgotten. That is our promise to these dear families and friends.”

Parents, faculty members, alumni and longtime friends of the school filed to the altar, one by one, to light a candle in memory of their departed loved ones. In prayer and song each was remembered and will continue to be so as a part of the school’s ongoing commitment to recall those whom we cherish.

The Memorial Candlelight Mass is held each year during November which is traditionally known as “All Souls” month in the Catholic Church. It is a time when Catholics remember the dead in prayer and Masses offered for deceased relatives and friends.

Participating in the service as readers were students Matt Marujo and Kaitlyn Sherman and altar server Katelyn Larivee. Musical accompaniment was by Mr. Kenneth Bryant.
