The Valedictorian of Bishop Connolly High School’s Class of 2018 is Alexis Laura Rodrigues Dess. Alexis is the daughter of David and Thelma Dess of Portsmouth, RI. Recognized for her outstanding academic achievements, Alexis was the 2017 recipient of the prestigious Harvard Book Award and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal. During her years at Bishop Connolly, Alexis earned membership to the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, and the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Portuguese Language Honor Society). In addition to these academic accomplishments, Alexis contributed her talents to the Bishop Connolly Theatre Company, varsity tennis team, and Recycling Club. Alexis will graduate with a gold medal for academic excellence and plans to pursue her undergraduate degree at Roger Williams University, where she was granted the Presidential Scholar Award. Alexis will major in Electrical Engineering.

The Salutatorian of the Class of 2018 is Camille Marie Bucci, daughter of Roy and Paula Bucci of Warren, RI. Camille was the 2017 recipient of the College of the Holy Cross Book Award. She was a member of the National Honor Society, where she served as president, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Language Honor Society). Camille was a member of the football and basketball cheer teams, for which she served as captain. Camille also donated her time as a peer tutor throughout her high school years and as a volunteer at The Willows Assisted Living/Grace Barker Nursing Center of Warren. Camille will graduate with a gold medal for academic excellence and has been accepted to the Fairfield University Honors Program as a Fairfield University Magis Scholar. Camille is enrolled in Fairfield’s Pre-Med Program as a Biology major.

Clayton J. McLane is the third-ranked student in the Class of 2018. Clayton is the son of Jeffrey and Jodi McLane of Warren, RI. Clayton has distinguished himself as an outstanding student, earning membership into the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, and Société Honoraire de Français (French Language Honor Society). He was awarded the 2017 LeMoyne Heights Award for academic excellence. Over the past four years, Clayton was an active member of the Bishop Connolly Theatre Company, varsity tennis and golf teams, Recycling Club, and Student Council. Clayton will graduate with a gold medal for academic excellence and will pursue his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University, where he was awarded the Johns Hopkins University Hopkins Grant. Clayton is majoring in Applied Mathematics and hopes to pursue a career in business finance.

Ranked fourth in the Class of 2018 is Fangbo Bai, the daughter of Hua Bai and Hui Xu of Henan Province, Zhangzhou, China. A talented artist and an accomplished student, Fangbo was awarded the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards Silver Key recognizing exceptional ability in art. She also was recognized with the Society of Women Engineers Award of Highest Honors in the study of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Additionally, Fangbo earned membership into the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society. Outside of the classroom, Fangbo dedicated her time as a Student Ambassador and her talents to the Van Gogh Club. She also was a member of Connolly’s cross country and basketball teams. Fangbo will graduate with a gold medal for academic excellence and has enrolled at Pratt Institute in New York City, where she plans to major in Architecture.

Mikayla Alane Saravo, the daughter of Susan Saravo and Matthew Saravo of Fall River, is the fifth-ranked student in the Class of 2018. Mikayla was an active member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Language Honor Society). She also was the recipient of the 2017 Fairfield College Book Award. Throughout her years at Bishop Connolly, Mikayla was a member of the varsity tennis team and contributed to the Forever Friends Club, working with students with developmental, physical and intellectual disabilities. Mikayla will graduate with a silver medal for academic excellence and will attend Johnson & Wales University, where she was awarded the Presidential Scholarship for academic excellence. Mikayla will major in Dietetics and Nutrition.

 

Zihan Wang is the sixth-ranked student in the Class of 2018. Zihan is the daughter of Yonghui Wang and Yanfang Liang of Henan Province, Zhangzhou, China. An accomplished student, Zihan has distinguished herself with the Society of Women Engineers Award of High Honors in the study of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and was inducted into the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society. During her years at Bishop Connolly, Zihan also contributed her time and talents to the cross country and basketball teams. Zihan will graduate with a silver medal for academic excellence and has enrolled at Penn State University, where she will study Business and Communications.

 

Emma Mello, the daughter of Leslie Mello of Fall River, is the seventh-ranked student in the Class of 2018. In recognition of Emma’s academic achievements, she received the 2017 St. Michael’s College Book Award and was inducted into the National Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Portuguese Language Honor Society), and Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society. Outside of the classroom, Emma was a member of the BCHS Student Council and a leader of Campus Ministry. She also contributed her time and talents to the varsity soccer and softball teams, where she served as captain. Emma will graduate with a silver medal for academic excellence and has been accepted to Saint Anselm College, where she is majoring in Biology on the Pre-Med track.

 

Ryan E. Arruda is the eighth-ranked student in the Class of 2018. Ryan is the son of Eduardo and Natalie Arruda of Fall River. A dedicated and hardworking student, Ryan was awarded the 2017 St. Michael’s College Book Award and earned membership to the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Portuguese Language Honor Society). Throughout his high school years, Ryan dedicated his time and talents to the varsity soccer and track teams. He also was recognized with a 2018 Salt of the Earth Award for his outstanding contributions to the Bishop Connolly community. Ryan will graduate with a silver medal for academic excellence and has enrolled in the Honors Program at the University of Rhode Island, where he was awarded the Centennial Scholarship. Ryan will study Kinesiology and plans to become a physical therapist.

Alexa Marie Raymond is the ninth-ranked member of the Class of 2018. Alexa is the daughter of Christopher Raymond and Laura Gaspar of Fall River. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Société Honoraire de Français (French Language Honor Society), and Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society. Alexa was awarded the 2017 Student Sage Award for exceptional high school students and was recognized with a 2018 Salt of the Earth Award for her exemplary conduct and contributions to the Bishop Connolly community. Alexa will graduate with a silver medal for academic excellence and will attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she has been accepted into the Doctor of Pharmacy Program.

 

Megan Elizabeth Quigley, the daughter of Derek and Lori Quigley of Fall River, is the tenth-ranked student in the Class of 2018. An accomplished student-athlete, Megan was inducted into the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Language Honor Society); she also was awarded the 2017 Regis College Book Award. Throughout her years at Bishop Connolly, Megan contributed her talents to the varsity volleyball and softball teams, for which she served as captain. In addition, Megan donated her time to Bishop Connolly’s Forever Friends Club, working with students with developmental, physical, and intellectual disabilities. Megan will graduate with a silver medal for academic excellence and plans to attend Simmons College, where she was awarded the Simmons College Dean Scholarship. Megan plans to become a physical therapist.

Allison Sarah Valton, the daughter of Thomas and Danielle Valton of Westport, is a student in Bishop Connolly High School’s L.E.A.P. Program and is graduating in the eleventh grade. She is ranked in the top ten of her graduating class of 2018. Allison is a member of the National Honor Society and Société Honoraire de Français (French Language Honor Society). Allison has contributed her time and talents to the Bishop Connolly Theatre Company and Recycling Club; she also was a founding member of the BCHS Interact Club. Allison will graduate with a silver medal for academic excellence and plans to attend Emerson College, where she was awarded the Spotlight Scholarship. Allison will major in Political Communication.
